As we continue to grow, we are looking to expand our team through the addition of an experienced Grade and Underground Utility Foreman to lead our field operations and ensure project success.
*Position Summary*
The Grade and Underground Utility Foreman is responsible for leading and managing jobsite crews on grading and underground utility projects throughout Middle Tennessee. This role ensures that production, safety, quality, and schedule goals are consistently achieved while maintaining compliance with company standards and contract requirements.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who is both field-proven and tech-savvy, capable of using iPads, tablets, and mobile apps to manage reports, schedules, and communication as well as familiarity with air testing, hydrostatic testing and mandrel proofing.
*Key Responsibilities*
· Production & Accountability
· 100% responsible for meeting crew production goals and maintaining schedule adherence.
· Manage labor, equipment, quality, and safety performance on assigned projects.
· Review and approve timecards, quantities, and production tracking daily by cost code.
· Submit daily reports, photos, and as-built updates digitally through company apps.
· Construction Management
· Interpret and execute work per project plans, specifications, and company standards.
· Communicate daily with the Superintendent regarding progress, challenges, and needs.
· Verify all materials and submittals prior to installation.
· Maintain proactive, professional communication with clients, inspectors, and vendors.
· Ensure all work is performed safely and meets quality expectations.
· Crew & Jobsite Leadership
· Supervise and motivate field crews to achieve production goals.
· Conduct daily morning huddles and weekly team meetings to review objectives and progress.
· Coordinate materials, tools, and equipment at least two days in advance.
· Conduct daily equipment and safety inspections to ensure compliance and prevent downtime.
· Enforce safety policies and maintain a clean, organized, and accident-free jobsite.
· Mentor assistant foremen and promote a positive, team-driven work culture.
· Conduct weekly trailer inventory and ensure proper equipment maintenance.
· Contract & Change Management
· Understand project scope, contract documents, inclusions, and exclusions.
· Never perform extra work without prior Superintendent authorization.
· Accurately document all changes, RFIs, CORs, and field notices.
· Scheduling & Reporting
· Develop and maintain 2–4 week look-ahead schedules in coordination with the Superintendent.
· Ensure all work is completed on time, with zero punch lists or callbacks.
· Submit reports and updates daily via mobile platforms.
*Qualifications*
* Minimum 5 years of experience supervising grading and underground utility construction crews.
* Strong knowledge of earthwork, storm drain, sanitary sewer, water main, and underground electrical systems.
* Proven leadership, communication, and mentoring skills.
* Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
* Tech-savvy – proficient with iPads, tablets, and mobile apps for reporting and scheduling.
* OSHA 30 certification required or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
* OSHA Trench Safety and Confined Space training a plus.
* Familiarity with GPS grade control and layout preferred.
* Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
* CDL and equipment operation experience a plus.
