SodStar (Operated by Buy Sod) is a multi-state agribusiness with sod farms in the Carolinas, Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee. This is a full-time position based at our Vero Beach, FL location. The Assistant Farm Manager will assist and communicate daily with the Farm Superintendent to ensure that quality sod is produced and ready for sale. The role requires logical planning and flexibility to handle changing conditions regarding decisions on mowing, fertilizing, spraying, and irrigation. Oversee Production and Harvest crews and ensure all employees operate within safety parameters. Ensure that any person operating equipment has been properly trained and is wearing all required PPE daily. Ensure pre-start checks (oil, hydraulic, water, clean air filters, etc.) and necessary preventive maintenance are completed. Ensure daily that all Production and Harvest equipment is calibrated and functioning properly; work with Farm Mechanic and vendor technicians to troubleshoot issues. Request purchase orders for parts and supplies and submit to Farm Manager for approval. Regularly inspect and implement quality control measures across all production departments. Assist in different departments as instructed by Farm Manager based on workloads, weather, staffing, etc. Partner with Sod Central for HR, Accounting, Logistics, Sales & IT for shared service needs. Qualifications High School diploma or equivalent required. Previous Experience In Agriculture Or The Turf Industry Preferred. Previous experience in a leadership/management role preferred. Valid Class A Commercial Driver License with the ability to make sod deliveries is highly preferred. Values relationships and results. Ability to discern issues that need to be brought to upper management. Ability to understand the concept and consequences of grass cross-contamination. Must demonstrate ability to be a team player and build positive working relationships. Working knowledge of hazards and safety precautions of the profession. Basic technology skills and ability to learn/utilize company software programs. Attention to detail and ability to assert ideas, solve problems, and communicate issues and positive experiences. Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and hours that could fluctuate day-to-day. Ability to work in adverse weather conditions. Ability to sit, climb, balance, bend, and kneel frequently; ability to lift up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds or more occasionally. Manual dexterity and constant movement of limbs.
